Hear the word of Mentor, Guardian of Loretome, and I will tell you about a bygone era and days in which the Empire was saved against all hope. For I fear, in truth, the imminent return of darkness...

The fierce legions of Morear, Lord of Chaos, had swept everything in front of them. To the spectacle of the Black Banner and the massed hordes of the Chaos, even the bravest of the Emperor's warriors had fled with all their legs, leaving the land to the ravages of the enemy and all men to a deep despair.

Then came a formidable warrior. Prince of the Boderlands, who was named Rogar the Barbarian. Like before him the ancient kings of legends, he wore on his forehead a sparkling diamond called the Western Star. Thus hope returned and the men came out of their refuges in the hills and forests to rally to its standard. He was also joined by other great heroes: Durgin, the brave Dwarf Warrior of the Mountains on the edge of the world; Ladril, the wise elf from the distant lands of Athelorn; and Telor, the Enchanter whose powers were to save Rogar on many occasions.

For many years. Rogar formed his year by taking care to avoid any direct confrontation with Morcar's general before everything was ready: this did not, however, prevent him from continually harassing the invader's supply troops and eliminating many Orcs and Goblins.

Finally, Rogar rose on the day he had been waiting for so long, and his army was now strong and experienced. Posted at the top of the Mountains. Ladril saw the Black Hosts from afar and ordered Ourgin to blow the horn to call everyone to arms. Rogar's troops fell on the enemy from all sides and the battle raged. Many vile creatures and brave men perished that day. Yet in the diminishing light of day, it was the defeated Darkness that was seen deserting the Se bataille field. The victory, however, was not absolute since it turned out that Morcar and his general had managed to escape beyond the Sea of Claws from where, even now, they are still plotting revenge. Their plans will soon be ready and the Empire will have to find a new Rogar. But where are the heroes of today who are worth it? You will have to learn a lot if you want to follow in Rogar's and his companions' footsteps. I will help you do so to the extent of my powers. This book that accompanies me - Loretome - was written at the beginning of time and everything that has ever been and will be recorded on its countless pages.

Thanks to him, I can guide you in your quest, but I must not intervene for fear that an even greater peril will fall upon the World and that the Lord of Chaos will triumph forever.

Hero Quest is an adventure game that takes place in a region under siege by the forces of Chaos. Mentor, the mysterious wise man with magic skills, invited four courageous adventurers to take up the challenge of becoming heroes and saving the country. Game training should allow you to play a game without having to assimilate all the rules. Once you have played your first quest, you will be ready to learn the rest of the rules and start the other quests.

Hero Quest is a game for 2 to 5 players, one of whom must assume the role of Morcar, the evil wizard, and command his entourage of monsters. This player is referred to as "the wizard player". The other players, for their part, each command one of the four potential heroes, namely the Elf, the Dwarf, the Enchanter and the Barbarian. These players are referred to as "the character players". Each quest offers a new challenge to the character players.

First, the wizard player chooses a quest from the Book of Quests and reads the text on the scroll to the players. This text tells the characters what they need to do.

Then the wizard player places all the elements of the first piece on the game board as shown on the card. This first piece contains the staircase from which all players start the game. The elements of the other pieces and passages will only be set up by the wizard as the players move. The player to the left of the wizard player starts playing and the game continues clockwise.

This box is the reissue of the first edition, but brings 12 new figures out of 47, and 13 new advanced level quests out of 27.
