U-Boot is a real-time simulation of submarine warfare during the Second World War. U-Boot allows 1 to 4 players to assume the roles of captain, first officer, navigator and chief engineer aboard a U-Boat type VIIC. The game is driven by a companion application, allowing an unprecedented level of realism, as well as a difficult enemy I.A. that will push you to the maximum of your skills.
Each of the four roles requires unique responsibilities, which encourages stakeholders to develop an effective communication plan and use authentic naval terminology. The captain oversees the achievement of the mission's objectives, supervises the costs in action points and is responsible for the morale of the crew. The first officer uses the companion app, manages the flow of information and takes care of the crew's health. The navigator controls the submarine by defining its course and depth, but also by updating all essential information on the strategic and tactical map. Finally, the chief engineer is responsible for engines, repairs and other mechanical equipment on board the U-boat (such as ballast, weapons systems, etc.). At the same time, each of the four officers commands his own group of crew members by issuing orders as part of a worker placement system.
The idea of the companion app is to provide a realistic and real-time gaming experience. To do this, the application presents the most important instruments of the submarine (such as periscope, hydrophone, Enigma, etc.). However, the vast majority of gameplay takes place on the game board, the instruments revealing hidden information and the application requiring only certain data (such as submarine heading, speed, etc.) to generate a adequate response from the opposing force. The application also takes care of all the ambient sound effects, which allows a better immersion of the players in the confined space of a Type VIIC.
From rapid skirmishes, through full combat missions, to a full campaign, U-Boot will allow you to conduct underwater operations in all major naval theaters of the Second World War. The success of these missions depends on the accomplishment of various tasks delegated to the crew by the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine (German naval headquarters), which include the patrol service, convoy attacks, the laying of mines in water enemies and many more! Each mission will require players to adopt different strategies and different game styles to complete it, and the companion app will produce a detailed report at the end of each game session (evaluation of player efforts, and eventually attribution of decorations, promotions, etc.). UBOOT was funded on the Crowdfunding Kickstarter (See the campaign) platform on the 15 February 2018, the campaign lasted 24 days. 8,342 people helped funded the game, whose the amount requested was £65,000.00. Thanks to these 8,342 people the game could be funded up to £686,652.00, ~1,056.39%.
