The race to the stars is on! Explore, Colonise, Develop, Sell, Consume or Produce? Which will be your choice? Which of Earth's former colonies will succeed in taking advantage of hyperspace-jump technology to colonise the galaxy? Who will discover the secrets of the powerful Alien Lords, mysteriously disappeared? Your goal: to build the most powerful and prosperous space empire! In the card game Race for the Galaxy, players build galactic civilisations by playing cards in front of them that represent worlds or technical and social developments. Some worlds allow players to produce goods, which can be consumed later to earn either cards or victory points.
At the beginning of each round, the players each choose, secretly and simultaneously, one of the seven roles that correspond to the phases in which the round takes place. By selecting a role, the players activate that phase for that round, giving each player the opportunity to perform the action of that phase. For example, if a player chooses the role of coloniser, each player has the possibility to colonise one of the planets in his hand. The player who has chosen the role, however, receives a bonus that applies only to him.
