A book, 3856 narrative possibilities... An extraordinary work, defying our reading habits, Vanilla or Chocolate ? pushes to the extreme the idea of the "book of which you are the hero". The reader follows the steps - and choices - of little Jimmy, confronted with a common initial dilemma: which flavour to choose for his ice cream, vanilla or chocolate? This decision precipitates a series of most unexpected consequences, which can go as far as the pure and simple end of the world. Jimmy will meet a mad scientist, creator of three variously diabolical inventions - a time machine, a helmet to read into the recent memory of the person who wears it, a "Killitron" finally, a device of apocalyptic annihilation. Inventions that make it possible to increase narrative potential tenfold by playing on temporal paradoxes, repetitions, back and forth. In the end, Vanilla or Chocolate? offers 3856 story possibilities - an absolute record.
The object consists of 80 pages with one to three tabs, through which one circulates following a network of coloured "tubes" connecting the boxes together: the device prohibits any linear path. Secret codes are still in the works...
In the end, Vanilla or Chocolate? offers a reading experience full of surprises, terribly exciting, and truly pleasant, thanks to Jason Shiga's unique humour.
