In St. Petersburg you will buy different types of cards: workers, buildings, aristocrats, trading cards and new market cards. In each phase a new type of card will be available for purchase. You will start with the workers, who are good at bringing in rubles. The new market cards (yellow) bring new resources. Having the majority of these resources from one turn to the next will earn you additional victory points. This battle for the majority improves the game experience and expands the tactical and strategic possibilities of the players. In the next phase, it is possible to acquire buildings, most of the time awarding victory points. Aristocrats provide a mixture of victory points and rubles, and also lead to a large end-game point bonus that cannot be ignored. Trading cards are used to upgrade cards already purchased.
These phases are repeated until one of the card decks is exhausted. At this point, the final victory points are counted and the winner is declared. For this new edition in St. Petersburg we have kept the well-known and appreciated basic game, but we have also added an extra playing phase. This will allow us to fully integrate a fifth player into the game. The new phase will introduce a new mechanism that will provide additional victory points and rubles. The purple action cards from the banquet expansion will also have matching cards for the market phase. And, of course, for fans of the old version, it will still be possible to play the game according to the original rules.
Since its release, Saint-Pétersbourg has won numerous awards and has been particularly well received by players.
