Celestial Butterflies is an exciting, beautifully illustrated game for two players, based on the Japanese legend of the White Butterfly. You must collect a kaleidoscope of butterflies in the hope of being visited by the White Butterfly, the soul of a lost loved one. The legend of the White Butterfly. Many years ago, an apprentice merchant named Takahama fell madly in love with a woman named Akiko. They became engaged, but tragically Akiko died before they could marry. Takahama was distraught. He had built a successful life and career, but he could not bear to be away from his love. His devotion to Akiko was such that he gave up his job and gave his life to the upkeep of the cemetery where she was buried.

For 50 years, Takahama visited Akiko's grave every day with a single pure white rose. One day, Takahama became so ill that he could not go out. Fearing that he would die, his sister and niece came to look after him. As he lay there, unable to move, a pure white butterfly landed gently on his pillow. Annoyed, Takahama's niece tried to scare the butterfly away, but it would not move away from the dying man's pillow. As Takahama's last breath left his body, the butterfly flew to Akiko's grave and disappeared. White butterflies are believed to be the souls of loved ones who come to visit them. Worried that Takahama did not visit her grave that day, Akiko looked at him and did not leave until his soul joined hers.
