Nobody ever goes to Illmarsh. This ugly, stranger-hostile village hides in the most fetid swamp of Ustalav and seems to be nothing but a breeding ground for rumour and madness. Those who evoke it always do so through stories of disappearance, misshapen shadows and sacrifices in honour of terrifying and forgotten creatures. But it is there that the trail of the fanatics of the way of the Murmur leads and it is therefore up to our heroes to unravel the mysteries of this repulsive village. They will discover desperate villagers, caught in a war between beings from the depths of the lake and invaders from the darkest corners of the cosmos.
Will they succeed in ridding Illmarsh of its age-old terrors? Or will they be the next victims of a horror from beyond the stars?
