The horrors of the Myth under the Revolution. The bloodthirsty crowd gathers in a concert of quolibets, while the guillotine is falling continuously... A time of struggle, intrigue and horror. A divided country, where the rich enjoy luxury and wealth while the poor can't afford a loaf of bread. Where cries of anger and rage at the injustices of life grow louder and louder, urging the people to unite to overthrow the Old Regime and create a brighter, more hopeful tomorrow. But it is precisely with the abolition of this society of order that hope ends up turning like a bad wine, opening the way to a period of terror at the sound of the dreadful guillotine.
The Reign of Terror is a two-part scenario that takes place during the French Revolution, in the years 1789 and 1794. It can be played as a separate mini-campaign, or as a historical interlude to be inserted into the Chaosium Terror campaign on the Orient Express. The first part takes place in 1789, in the early days of the Revolution, and takes investigators to the catacombs of Paris. They will also have to brave the perfidious environment of court life, where horror is born of debauchery and depravity. The second part, which takes place during the Terror, plunges them into a conspiracy in which spies seek those who could destabilize the new regime. Caught between the chaos and the dangers of Paris, they will have to find a way to prevent a nightmare that would throw France and the rest of Europe into darkness.
This book contains a wealth of historical information to help the Guardian bring the Revolution to life, as well as new occupations for the investigators and a list of scenario hooks that will allow for longer play and a more sustainable and detailed campaign. If you use it as a parenthesis to Terror on the Orient Express, The Reign of Terror is an action-packed "life-size clue", so to speak. Players will discover a Count Fenalik at the height of his power, and these scenarios will shed new light on the original campaign.
No matter how you play, this book features six pre-drawn investigators, a complete chronology of the Revolution, beautiful full-color maps of Paris, Versailles, and other locations, and a bibliography to help you learn more.
