Bordeaux, a city of vineyards and a port, has lived through 18 centuries of history, the memory of which can be seen in many of its buildings: Roman ruins, churches, abbeys, Romanesque and Gothic basilic churches, mansions, bridges, and quays on the Gironde. As the former Anglo-Gasconne capital, it has managed to preserve these testimonies and is now looking to the future by redeveloping its neighborhoods, creating new business centers and equipping itself with efficient industrial (aeronautics, space, electronics) and commercial infrastructures.
As a major tourist center, the city has happily developed its marvelous assets: gastronomy, world-famous vineyards whose products still represent an important part of its activity, and the Atlantic coast with its vacation spots. It has also become the dynamic heart of a cultural life (theater, opera, festivals...), sports (clubs, Lescure Stadium...) and university of the first rank, assuring its place as regional capital.
