Basse-Normandie is a former French administrative region, which included the three departments of Calvados, Manche and Orne. It corresponded to the western part of the old historical province of Normandy and part of the Perche. The notion of Lower Normandy was already a reality in the sixteenth century, or even in the fourteenth century, without covering precisely the same territory. As part of the territorial reform of 2014, Lower Normandy merged with Upper Normandy on January 1, 2016, to form the Normandy region.
