Monopoly: Bassin d'Arcachon

The Arcachon basin remains today, despite the influx of tourists, a dream of exoticism, initiated in the nineteenth century by the vogue of sea bathing in the delicious air crosses the ocean of pine trees to come bathe this inland sea lined with villages where we raise exquisite oysters, where the water is transparent, and in the middle of which emerges the island of Birds. This dream is a vast triangle of more than one hundred kilometers in circumference, from the Dune du Pilat to the Pointe du Cap Ferret, divided between the south coast, that of Arcachon, La Teste, the oyster ports, the Teich park and the Eyre delta, the east coast, Biganos, Audenge, Lanton, Andernos and Arès, the west coast finally, the peninsula of Lège-Cap Ferret, the whole connected to the Ocean by passes punctuated with sandbanks in perpetual movement, of which the famous bench of Arguin.

The fresh waters of the Leyre and the canal of the ponds flow at low tide in the middle of immense maritime marshes, the delta of the Eyre or the great salt meadows of Arès; the 370 million m3 of salt water arrive by the passes to the flow to cover again the cleared lands; an incessant coming and going, which makes of the basin of Arcachon this great protean body that one does not cease to discover always for the first time, amazed.
