As Maurice Barrès from Lorraine wrote, Lorraine is one of the "places where the spirit blows". First of all, because of its nature, at the source of two very large river basins, it develops in the depths of its forests and at the edge of its ponds, a real inner strength. Then, its history: in the shadow of its cathedral spires, the former Lotharingia was the object of covetousness; Charles the Bold died before Nancy; its Dukes developed the economy by giving it a European dimension from the start. Today, it is a real place of exchange in Europe, the only region to have three borders (Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany).
Lorraine, the birthplace of Robert Schuman, can claim to be one of the great regions of Europe. The best steel is produced here and it is no coincidence that Mercedes and Swatch decided to manufacture the "Smart" here. The region of Verlaine, where Saint Nicolas is honored, has always celebrated the lights: the gold of the Stanislas square, the light and shade of Georges la Tour, the crystal art factories, the Epinal pictures... The great wars have worn it down and formed its character: solid, courageous and patient.
