In 1491, Charles VIII besieged Rennes to conquer the hand of Anne of Brittany. By accepting, it begins the attachment of Britain to France, which will become final in 1532. With the final installation of Parliament in Rennes in 1561, the city reaches the rank of regional capital and aristocratic city. Today, Rennes has kept a medieval atmosphere, despite the devastation of the fire of 1720, largely destroying its historic center and the recent fire of parliament in 1994.
