Troyes, capital of the Aube department, is a regional commercial and administrative center as well as an important industrial center, whose activities are organized around tires, cycles, machine tools and food. The city is especially renowned for its hosiery industry, a real local specialty. Resisting efficiently to international competition, Troyes remains the first French center in this sector and has developed a strong commercial activity thanks to the installation of famous factory stores. In the heart of the Champagne region, Troyes has kept a remarkable heritage from its history.
The city is home to many historical monuments including the church of Saint-Urbain (Pope Urban IV was born in Troyes) and the Gothic cathedrals of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul. The city center has kept many streets lined with old houses. Troyes lives daily with more than 7,000 students: since the end of the 1980s, it has been working to create and integrate a group of higher education and research units in the heart of the city: relocation to Troyes of the University of Reims Champagne Ardenne, Troyes Business School...
