Gold seeker, captain, steward, merchant, planter, craftsman or mason, these are the roles you can play in the new world. The richest plantation, the most beautiful buildings, the best filled warehouses will bring you prosperity and above all the prestige represented by victory points.

The game is played in a number of rounds. In each round, each player chooses one of the seven characters in play and all players, clockwise, can perform the action specific to that character. Thus, for example, the planter allows all players to establish new plantations on which, with the help of the artisan, they can produce goods. These goods can then be sold by the merchant, or shipped to the old world by the captain. The money thus collected can be used by the mason to build buildings, and so on.

The player who knows best how to use the different characters and their actions will become the most prestigious and successful character in Puerto Rico, and thus win the game.

The winner is the player who, at the end of the game, has the most victory points.
