China is an abstract game of political influence in China. Players use cards to place pieces (Houses or Emissaries) in the nine regions of the board. When all house spaces in a region are filled (or at the end of the game), players score points for house majorities in that region. At the end of the game, players score points if they have a majority of emissaries in two adjacent regions. Players also score points if they have four or more houses in an unbroken sequence along one of the board roads. This fascinating game of domination combines multiple tactical possibilities with easy-to-learn rules and short playing time!
Even today, in China, the undeniable evidence of a fascinating history is everywhere. Hundreds of years ago, the country was on the verge of a change of power. Regional rulers were constantly fighting against each other with one goal in mind: to become the new emperor. They erected imposing houses and sent their emissaries to the regional courts.
China is based on the award-winning game Web of Power by master game designer Michael Schacht. China differs from Web of Power in that there are no "half-time" region scores as in the previous game; there are four face-up cards to draw instead of only two; and all adjacent regions have emissary score opportunities, whereas in Web of Power, some adjacent regions did not. A special variant with fortifications is included. Apart from these differences, the two games are essentially the same.
