The Camargue is a vast plain, hemmed in by the two arms of the Rhone and the Mediterranean Sea: Petite Camargue to the west and Crau to the east. The incessant struggle of the Rhone and the sea, combined with the action of man, have created a mosaic of environments and landscapes. In the north, agricultural activities have developed: cereal fields, asparagus, vineyards and intensive rice growing. The authentic Camargue gardianne is discovered in the south where marshes and ponds dominate; the protection of this natural space conditions the diversity and the geological balance of the fauna (more than 300 listed species) and the flora, as well as the pastures essential to the traditional breeding of the bull and the horse.
The Camargue is also cities with a rich historical past: Arles, whose Roman vestiges still bear witness to past splendors, Aigues-Mortes, the city of Saint-Louis, Les Saintes Maries de la mer, capital of the Camargue... It was in this land of contrasts that Van Gogh came to seek the light. Animated by the "Fé di Biou", the Camarguais will make you relive the ancestral customs of the gardianne culture and discover a tasty gastronomy.
