Made up of a part of the former Seine-et-Oise with a rural tradition and a part of the former industrial and urban Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis is a contrasting territory. Even today, these diverse identities are the basis of the uniqueness of its heritage. Indeed, beyond a negative and caricatured image widely conveyed by the media, the garden city of Stains, the "murs à pêches" (peach tree walls) of Montreuil, the Cedars castle in Montfermeil, or the Bobigny labor exchange created by Oscar Niemeyer are part of the 80 or so sites protected as Historic Monuments. More than 35% of the population of Seine-Saint-Denis is under 25 years old. This demographic asset is part of the transformation that the region has been undergoing for the past 20 years.
If the construction of the Stade de France in Saint-Denis for the 1998 World Cup is a good example, the rehabilitation of the Grands Moulins de Pantin, the eco-neighborhood projects between the Ourcq Canal and the Nationale 3, and the future European Film City are also evidence of this dynamic.
