The department of Jura is a French department whose name comes from the Gallic juris which means "mountain forest" (Jura massif). It is one of the eight departments of the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It is part of the historical and cultural region of Franche-Comté. Its prefecture is Lons-le-Saunier. Its inhabitants are the Jurassiens. The Insee and the Post Office give it the code 39.
