This is a time when the maps of the world are still being filled in. Maritime empires are expanding their borders by sending ships to the far reaches of the globe in search of new lands, new alliances and new conquests. The wealth of newly discovered worlds abroad is a tempting prize for those with the strength and cunning to seize it... and keep it! You represent a growing empire, engaged in a glorious enterprise of expanding your influence and status at home and across the great oceans of the world. Through exploration and shipping, colonisation and warfare, you will struggle with other great powers to control the resources and regions available to you.
The goal of Endeavor is to gain the most glory for your empire. Players gain glory by increasing their scores in industry, culture, finance and politics, as well as by occupying cities, controlling connections between cities and holding certain asset cards and building tiles. The short-term goals of constructing useful buildings, collecting trade tokens and obtaining trump cards must be balanced with the overall goal of achieving glory as you fight for control of different regions of the world. The game only lasts seven rounds, and at the end you want to be the one who has earned the most glory points!
Each round, each player builds a new building, according to their industry track. He then gets new population markers according to his Culture track and gets the markers used in the buildings according to his Finance track. During the Action Phase, players take turns activating a building using a Population Marker or spending Trade Chits to perform an action: Ship, Occupation, Attack, Payment or Draw. Some buildings and tokens allow a player to perform one or two actions. Shipping is used to open up new areas to occupation and draw, and allows you to earn trade tokens. When a shipping track is full, the player with the most influence in that region wins the powerful Governor card for that region. Occupying a city brings glory and trade tokens, while attacking steals a city from the opponent! Occupying or attacking can result in claiming the connection between two cities, if the two connected cities are controlled by the same player. The draw allows you to gain a card from a region up to the maximum hand limit based on the player's Political Track. A player's influence in a region determines the cards he can draw. Once all players have passed, a new round begins.
