This is a time of growing despair and darkness. Sauron the Great, Dark Lord of Mordor has returned to Barad-dur. From there, once again, his corruption and evil power have spread. Alas, before him the West is bled dry... The Elves are leaving the Midlands, and the blood of the Númenór dries up; what is left of it lies in Minas Tirith, and with the few prowlers that wander in the ruins and wilderness of Arnor. Yet there is still hope. Gandalf the Grey has learned that the One Ring, the master ring that Sauron desires and fears most in the world, lies with Frodo the Hobbit in the Shire, the least evil place in the Midlands. And then there are the heroes!
Heroes who will help Gandalf in his pursuit of Gollum and in his quest for the lost knowledge of the Scourge of Isildur. Heroes who protect the Shire from the enemy. Heroes who will venture into the forests of Ithilien, and even into the Shadow Lands, to put an end to Sauron's dark schemes. The Quest of the Midlands is set in the 17-year period between Bilbo's birthday and the departure of the County Ring, as told in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel The Lord of the Midlands Anneaux™.
A player takes on the role of Sauron, trying to dominate the Midlands with his foul conspiracies and evil servants. Up to three other players take on the role of heroes to ward off the threat until Gandalf's plans are put into place. To do so, the heroes must embark on dangerous quests and meet famous characters from the Midlands to gain favour and knowledge. Will you play as Sauron trying to take over the Midlands? Or will you play a hero standing up to the Dark Lord? The fate of the Midlands is in your hands!
