The Monopoly of Alès was created by the class of Baccalauréat Professionnel "Service de Proximité Vie Locale" of the Lycée Jean-Baptiste Dumas d'Alès, class of 2008-2010, during the Applied Arts classes of Mrs. Adeline Lacordaire and with the help of Mrs. Naïma Guernine, Biotechnology teacher. The aim of this project was to make the students of the Lycée Professionnel aware of the rich heritage of Alès. Located in the Cévennes, close to the Mediterranean, Alès enjoys an authentic environment with exceptional landscapes. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the city experienced a major boom thanks to the silk industry and the coal mines, whose history is recounted in the museum of the witness mine. Today, successful companies and numerous businesses have been established.
Alès is also a city of culture and entertainment with nationally renowned festivals such as Festiv'Alès, Cinéma Itinérances, Les Fous Chantants, Cratère Surface... Faithful to its honorary title of "capital" of the Cevennes, now endowed with its fourth flower, Alès carefully maintains the development of its Cevennes heritage.
