Aveyron is a French department located in the Occitanie region, in the south-west of France. It takes the name of the river Aveyron. It is at the center of a triangle formed by the cities of Toulouse, Clermont-Ferrand and Montpellier. This department takes approximately the contours of the former province of Rouergue. It is one of the largest departments in metropolitan France by area (the fifth with 8,735 km2). The inhabitants of Aveyron are the Aveyronnais.
The department is part of the academy of Toulouse and depends on the court of appeal of Montpellier. INSEE and the Post office give him code 12. His prefecture is Rodez.
