In the 15th century, the Portuguese prince Henry, the Navigator (Henrique o Navegador) nicknamed the best cartographer and navigator of his time taught them to explore the shores of the African coast. They therefore gained experience in shipping and shipbuilding, announcing the Era of Exploration and allowing Portugal to later discover a direct trade route with India and China.
At the height of its power, Portugal controlled the trade routes from Brazil to Japan and obtained overwhelming wealth with its domination over the spice trade. The players represent rich trading dynasties that help to build the Portuguese colonial empire. As they traced the routes, the fabulous explorers reached Nagasaki - but sailing in unknown waters is a dangerous adventure. Founding colonies and factories helped them build a basic economy - but the price of sugar, gold and spices fluctuated all the time, and only the dynasties that adapted to the market were able to finance their noble plans. It is crucial to monitor the actions of other players, as it is a fierce competition for new discoveries, settlements, shipyards, and churches.
