Le Havre is a game in which you will manage a port and build boats and buildings. Each turn, you will choose between taking goods of a type or performing a construction action. The number of goods offered varies from one round to another. New goods of each type are regularly added and accumulate until a player takes possession of them. Wood, clay and iron are used as building materials, while fish, grain and oxen are used to feed your dockworkers. The actions available in the buildings allow you to improve these goods by returning their tokens.
For example, wood can be improved into charcoal using the Oven. This type of transformation allows you to switch from a building material to a more important source of energy. Energy is used, for example, to improve the brick clay at the Brickworks. Le Four and la Briqueterie are just two of the 33 buildings you will find in Le Havre. In addition to these, there are 36 special buildings, only a handful of which are used in each part, making each one unique.
You will have to build wooden, iron or steel boats on a shipyard and do so early enough to meet your food needs that increase neck after neck. With the exception of luxury boats, boats provide food for each round. Boat owners can also use the shipping company to sell their goods. You can also use your Francs to buy boats and buildings, which can therefore be either built with raw materials or purchased with Francs. Any player can enter any building. Many buildings require an entrance fee that must be paid.
At the end of the game, the player with the highest accumulated fortune wins: this is measured by adding your Francs and the total value of your boats and buildings.
