In many ways, Risk: The Walking Dead - Survival Edition follows the usual Risk gameplay, where players compete to claim territories on a map, earn bonuses and eliminate their opponents. What's different about this game is that players compete on a map representing the southeastern region of the United States, the setting for The Walking Dead comic book series, with 32 territories and six zones. In addition to fending off attacks from other players and competing for resources, they must also protect themselves from the hordes of undead that pop up at the beginning of each player's turn and are just waiting to feast.
Risk: The Walking Dead - Survival Edition includes a deck of event cards, with each player drawing one at the beginning of their turn. These cards refer to events in the history of The Walking Dead, and players face various rewards and penalties depending on the situation. The game ends after a fixed number of turns, but players can also choose to fight until all but one player is eliminated.
