On November 30, 1803, the United States of America bought Louisiana from Napoleon. President Jefferson then decided to send two explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to discover this immense terra incognita. In Lewis & Clark, each player drives his own "Corps of Discovery" across the continent. His team will be completed by the Indians and trappers he met during the trip. Players lead an expedition across the North American continent. The goal is to be the first to reach the West Coast. Lewis & Clark is therefore a racing game. Only the first place counts.
Each player has in his hand Character cards that form his expedition. These characters allow you to perform actions such as collecting resources, advancing along the route, asking for help from the Indians. To be triggered, the action corresponding to a card must be associated with a Force that is provided by either another card or Indians.
Each game turn, a player must perform an action. He can also recruit a new Character and thus improve his hand of cards. Finally, on a regular basis, players will be able to set up their Camp in order to take back the cards previously played. During the Camp, the loading of the expedition into resources and the number of Indians accommodated can eventually cause the hard-won advance to be lost. Proper management of resources and Indians is therefore crucial in the game.
The game stops immediately as soon as a player has brought his Camp to or beyond Fort Clatsop.
