The Rocher de la Vierge in Biarritz, the Romanesque collegiate church of Sainte-Engrace, the church of Saint-Fructueux in Itxassou, the ancestral forest of Iraty, the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the Rhune mountain, the Pointe Sainte-Anne in Hendaye, the reflection of the quays of Bayonne in the Nive river, the beach of the Chambre d'Amour in Biarritz, the Malus-Leo of Mauléon, the Holçarté Narrows, the Osquich Pass, the Old Bridge of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, the Bay of Chingoudy, the caves of Isturitz and Otxocelhaya, the tower of Urkulu and so many others, the Basque Country mixes the magic of places with that of names. In the extreme south-west, the Basque Country, Euskal Herria, is limited in the north by the river Adour, in the west by the Atlantic Ocean, in the east by the Bearn; it continues in Spain beyond the Pyrenees. Of its seven provinces, three are on the French side, successively from west to east, Labourd, Basse-Navarre and Soule.

In the Upper Soule, to the southeast, the Pyrenees rise to more than 2,000 meters with the famous peak of Anie, the Sacred Mountain of the Basques. The high plateaus delimited by abrupt cliffs are separated by deep valleys, that of the Saison or the Nive or basins like that of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. Further north, the mountains become rounder, the valleys widen, like that of the Bidouze. As you approach the Atlantic Ocean, the Pyrenean massif becomes even lower, dominated by the Rhune (900 m) and its mythical little train. At the foot of the Pyrenees, hills and lowlands extend to the Adour River in the North and the ocean in the West. The Bidouze river crosses the depression of Saint-Palais, the Nive and Nivelle rivers trace beautiful alluvial valleys in Labourd.

On the coast, from Bayonne to Hendaye, after the beaches of Chiberta and the Chambre d'Amour, there are cliffs and extraordinary geological manifestations. Strongly marked by the oceanic climate, the three provinces have warm summers, beautiful October months crossed by the flights of the goshawks and mild winters. If green dominates everywhere, the gold and red of the ferns, oaks and beech trees invade the landscape in autumn.
