Conan got up painfully and saw that the man was dead, his throat torn out. A large grey wolf stood above him, his head bent over, sniffing at the blood that was beginning to form a pool on the grass. She called for the wolf and the wolf trotted up to her, then rubbed her gigantic shoulder against her knee, staring at Conan's big, sparkling green eyes. The woman mechanically laid her hand on the beast's mighty neck, and they both stood there looking at the king of Aquilonia.
The Great Wolf slept near her, facing the fire, her huge head buried between her legs, her ears waving in her dreams.
