The Commands & Colors 1st GM THE GREAT WAR game rules allow players to relive important commitments throughout the history of the First World War. The battles, included in the scenario booklet, focus on the deployment of historical forces and important terrain features such as trenches, integrated into the game system. The scale of the game is flexible and varies from battle to battle. For some scenarios, a few infantry units may represent the entire front line of a major battle, while in other scenarios, a unit may represent only a few brave soldiers.
The command card system manages movement, creates a "war fog" and offers players many possibilities; while battle dice resolve combat quickly and efficiently. Combat cards, by their timely use, add an element of suspense and challenge players. Overall, players will need to use combat tactics to aim for victory, in accordance with the strengths and limitations of the different types of WWI units, their weapons, the battlefield, and history.
In the basic game, the focus is on a number of trench battles from the First World War. These battles focus on the British Army's main actions against their German opponents.
