On the coast beaten by the waves of the North Sea, a laborious people survives again and again by the sweat of their brow. Constantly threatened by storms and floods, several communities are coming together to build the dikes that should protect them. But every resident mobilized to build the dyke is an absent breeder, who can not take care of the sheep and other farm tasks. The inhabitants of the lowlands are thus constantly torn between altruism and their own interests. Only those who succeed in making the right choice and find the right balance can survive in these hostile lands.
