Black Rose Wars is a competitive fantasy deck-building, strategy and combat game set in the fast-paced world of Nova Aetas, Italy. Each player takes on the role of one of the powerful mages of the Order of the Black Rose who aspires to become the new Supreme Magister in order to acquire the powerful artefact of the Black Rose and the forgotten magic. The mages must fight, satisfy the Black Rose's desires and gain power through their spells until their power reaches the confining threshold of the prison where they are exiled, and finally break free. Each magician has six schools of magic at their disposal, each with their own strategy for destroying their opponents and increasing their power. At the start of the battle, mages start with a grimoire of six cards; as mages study spells during the game, their grimoire increases. Each spell in Black Rose Wars has two different effects, which increases the player's ability to adapt during battle.
The mages fight in a modular arena consisting of hexagons called "rooms". They summon powerful creatures, cast destructive spells or work out dark deceptions with their enchantments. The game system is divided into different phases. In each round, after choosing new spells from the six schools of magic, the players plan their strategy in advance by placing cards face down. Later, they reveal the played cards to kill each other, solve missions, summon creatures or destroy prison halls, against each other and against the Black Rose (the game system). After being killed, mages are immediately resurrected, allowing them to resume combat without delay - although their death still supplies energy to the mages who caused it. The mage with the most power at the end of the battle will be crowned Supreme Magister of the Order by the Black Rose herself.

Black Rose Wars was funded on the Crowdfunding Kickstarter (See the campaign) platform on the May 20, 2018, the campaign lasted 24 days. 8,364 people helped funded the game, whose the amount requested was $60,000.00. Thanks to these 8,364 people the game could be funded up to $1,311,558.00, ~2,185.93%.
