The Terra Mystica factions have opened their doors to trade beyond the trading post in Terra Mystica: Merchants of the Seas. More trade flows between the factions with their brand new river ships. A new large building, the shipyard, allows you to upgrade your shipping or range and produce ships with twenty faction board expansions. Factions that export will receive VPs and resources based on the building they ship to. Factions that import and receive a ship from the opponent will gain power. Ships will dig and build in adjacent hexes, so be careful! Ships can also be consumed and form new dwellings. Ship movement and Dwelling actions add a new element of tactical movement to the already deep strategy of Terra Mystica while maintaining perfect information.
Factions must also adapt to an all-new set of 12 score tiles, four new ship favours, three new bonus tiles, three additional power actions, city tiles and two maps: Loon Lakes and Fjords. The cards and most of the scorecards can also be used with the base game if you wish. The Fire and Ice expansion is not required, but the necessary materials are provided.
