878 - The Vikings is the first opus in the Birth of Europe series, a cousin of the Birth of America series (1775 The American Revolution, 1812 The Invasion of Canada, and soon 1754 The Conquest). Its theme is the Viking invasions on the Anglo-Saxon coasts in the 9th century.
As usual, the game uses 90% of the common rules while including differences that will create a new game experience. In 878 The Vikings, the camps are asymmetrical since the English camp starts the game with territories while the Viking camp will land on the island in waves of invasion. Another change is that armies can be led by these lords. In this case, that army can fight in its movement just as it can drop off or pick up units along the way.
The result is new tactics that are totally different from 1775 The American Revolution or 1812 The Invasion of Canada.
