For years, your travels have taken you across the fantastical realm of Terrinoth, venturing into dark forests, shadowy cities, ancient crypts and misty swamps - but your true legend is about to begin.
Forge your own legend with your friends as you venture into the fantasy realm of Terrinoth in the cooperative board game Descent: Legends of Darkness. With a free built-in app, Descent: Legends of Darkness puts you in the role of a budding hero with his own play style and abilities. Together with your unlikely companions, you will begin an unexpected adventure - an adventure told through the sixteen quests of the "Blood and Flames" campaign. Throughout your campaign, you'll face undead lurking in the mists, demonic barbarians stalking the wilderness, and even more terrifying threats. With 46 3D terrain pieces and forty hero and monster figures to draw you into the game, your greatest adventure is still ahead of you! Your objectives will change from quest to quest as you follow the campaign story. Core game mechanics such as combat, fatigue, skills, items and more have been completely reinterpreted in Legends of Darkness, while a new approach to scenario layout and 3D terrain allows for striking multi-layered scenarios.
Gameplay is fast and intuitive. You perform three actions each turn: one manoeuvre action and two additional actions of your choice. Manoeuvring gives you movement points, as shown in the top right corner of the character sheet, and as you always have a manoeuvre action, you can reposition yourself to a more advantageous position to attack. In addition to manoeuvres, you can use an action to attack an enemy, rolling your attack dice and using your hero's abilities and weapons to inflict maximum damage or adverse conditions on your enemies, or you can use the explore action to interact with a 3D terrain feature or token using the app. You can also use your action to perform one of the most crucial actions in Legends of Darkness: the ready action, which allows you to flip your hero sheet or one of your cards to its opposite side, unlocking new abilities! Your hero sheet is not the only thing you can prepare. Each hero also has an attack card and skill cards! Each hero starts the game with two weapon cards, which are put together back to back to create a single attack card. Skill cards can also be prepared, allowing you to switch between two complementary abilities.
The app also brings new changes to the gameplay, introducing enemies with adaptable strategies, complex status effects and triggers that are fully managed by the app, as well as the ability to evolve your heroes based on the choices you make in the scenarios. You'll also discover a multitude of activities between scenarios, such as crafting, shopping in town, upgrading equipment, etc. Due to these various differences, Descent: Legends of Darkness is not compatible with Descent: Journeys into Darkness and its expansions.
