Take part in one of the most famous science fiction stories of all time. Dune: A Game of Conquest and Diplomacy builds on 40 years of development, refinement and evolution of the original classic game. It has all the DNA, flavour, tension and beloved themes, but with a new board design, more spices, new simplified rules and a new market game from which you can buy game advantages. In addition, the all-new two-player mode really opens up new gameplay possibilities, making the game more accessible to even the most casual players.
In Dune, you'll take control of one of four major factions - House Atreides, House Harkonnen, the Fremen, and the Imperium - all vying for control of the universe's most valuable resource: melange, the mysterious spice found only at great cost on the planet Dune. Send your forces to Dune, harvest the spice, take control of the fortresses and destroy your enemies. Who will control Dune? It's up to you!
The game is played in several phases, some of which have no player-specific actions, such as in the spice phase, a spice card is drawn and spice is added to the board in two territories, or a sand worm attacks the last two territories where spice was placed. But in the card phase, each player draws up to a hand of 4 Battle cards, then may buy Market cards up to a hand of 3 for 2 spices each. In the shipping and movement phase, players take turns adding forces to the board and then moving forces around the board. The game runs from 3 to 5 rounds. From the 3rd round onwards, the game can end if a player occupies 3 fortresses at the end of the round. If no one has occupied 3 strongholds by the end of the 5th round, the player with the most spices wins (and each occupied stronghold counts as 5 spices).
