The insistence of the Builders that their Mangonels are not catapults at all became a subject of jokes among the brothers of the Night's Watch. The Constructors claim that only the enormous machines, which line the Wall and use special projectiles, deserve the name of catapult. In any case, when a Mangonel sends a rock weighing more than a hundred pounds right into the enemy ranks, sweeping away the best-protected troops, no one really cares about this distinction anymore. Mangonels are formidable machines, but difficult to move and particularly vulnerable to enemy cavalry.
