Spartacus: The Price of Blood and Treachery, a thrilling game of twisted schemes and bloody battles inspired by the hit STARZ Original series, each player takes on the role of a Dominus, head of a rising house in the ancient Roman city of Capua. Each house competes for influence to gain favour with Rome. Through a combination of political ploys and glorious battles on the sands of the arena, your house will gain fame and stature. As Dominus, you have a variety of resources at your disposal. Guards protect you from plots by your rivals. Slaves keep your house running and earn gold. Gladiators compete to bring glory to themselves and influence to their Dominus.
Three main phases take place during each round of Spartacus: The Price of Blood and Treachery. The Intrigue phase is where players launch their ploys, hoping to increase their fortunes while undermining their rivals. Schemes and reactions are represented by cards in the Intrigue deck. Players use their influence to put their plans into play, often asking for (or bribing) the help of another player to work out the more complex plots. The market phase is where players buy, sell and trade goods (gladiators, slaves, equipment and guards). Players also compete to acquire new goods at auction. Wealth is not the only path to success, as players bluff and negotiate with each other to acquire the goods they covet. The arena phase is where the bloody games take place. Gladiators from two rival Houses face each other in a brutal battle for glory. The spectacles of the games are represented by miniature battles on the arena stage. The combatants pit their attack, defence and speed dice against each other to determine the winner. All players seek to increase their fortunes by betting on the outcome of this gruesome conflict. Fighters who emerge victorious from the arena gain Favours and their Dominus gains Influence.
The goal of the game is to become the most influential house in Capua, ensuring your family's power for years to come. Over the course of the game, players will corrupt, poison, betray, steal, blackmail and weaken each other. Gold will change hands again and again to buy support, keep someone's hand or influence their decisions. Will you be the honourable player whose word is bond or the traitor whose alliances change with the wind?
