Venice, set in the 16th century city of the same name, allows players to play as wealthy and influential merchants who travel the city's canals in gondolas, train their assistants, fulfill contracts and use their influence to gain political power. But business is anything but usual. While negotiating contracts and flirting with crime, merchants must avoid arousing the suspicions of the Venetian Inquisition or risk arrest and closure of their business. In the game, players move their two gondolas around the board. When they move a gondola, they can activate the assistants they previously placed on all the buildings they pass, but they can only train (and improve the abilities of) the one they end their move on. Assistants allow you to obtain resources, trade, earn money and undertake a range of other actions depending on the buildings they are assigned to. When resources are made, they are placed in the gondola, and these will be used to fulfil lucrative contracts.
However, space is limited on the city's canals, and every time you pass another merchant's boat, rumours spread, increasing your level of suspicion of the Inquisition. Lower your suspicion by visiting the church and donating to the church or academic institutions, or beware and engage in unsavoury activities for money or information. Over the course of the game, being a reputable merchant can be an asset to your political career, but at the end of the game, the most suspicious player will be made an example of by the Inquisition, preventing your victory even if you have the most points. Includes a single player mode by David Turczi and Xavi Bordes.
