Cascadia is a tile and chip building game featuring the habitats and wildlife of the Pacific Northwest. In the game, you take turns building your own land and populating it with wildlife. You start with three hexagonal habitat tiles (with five habitat types in the game), and each turn you choose a new habitat tile that is associated with a wildlife token, then place that tile next to your other tiles and place the wildlife token on an appropriate habitat. (Each tile represents 1-3 types of wildlife from the five types offered in the game, and you can place a maximum of one tile on a habitat). Four tiles are presented, each tile randomly associated with a wildlife token, so you have to make the best of what's available - unless you have a nature token to spend so you can choose your element.
Ideally, you can place habitat tiles to create a suitable terrain that reduces fragmentation and creates corridors for wildlife, especially as you score a point for the largest area of each habitat type at the end of the game, with a bonus if your group is larger than every other player's. At the same time, you want to place the fauna tokens in such a way as to maximise the number of points they score, with the fauna objectives being determined randomly by one of the three scorecards for each fauna type. Perhaps the hawks want to be separated from the other hawks, while the foxes want to be surrounded by lots of different animals and the bears want to be in pairs. Can you do it?
Since its release January 2022, Cascadia has won numerous awards and has been particularly well received by players. If you don't put it down or haven't played it yet, you absolutely need it in your game library, with Cascadia, you'll have a great time with your friends, below the reward obtained by the game : 2022 (Spiel des Jahres).
