Sidereal Confluence is a unique trading and negotiation game for 4 to 9 players. In the course of the game, each race must trade and negotiate with others to acquire the resource cubes needed to fund their economy and enable them to produce goods for the next round. The key to success lies in intrigue, deals and mutually beneficial agreements. Although technically a competitive game, Sidereal Confluence has a cooperative aspect during the trade phase, as no race has the ability to prosper alone. Trade well, and you will develop technologies and colonise planets to form a civilisation that the galaxy envies.
Each player chooses one of nine unique and asymmetrical alien races that have come together to form a trade federation in their quadrant. Each race has its own pack of cards representing all the existing and future technologies it may seek. Some races also have other cards related to the unique characteristics of their culture. These cards represent parts of the culture's economy and require spending a certain number of cubes to use them, resulting in more cubes, ships and possibly victory points. As each culture's output rarely matches their input, players must trade goods with each other to run their converters to create the resources they actually need to run their society as efficiently as possible and have an efficient economy. Almost everything is tradable, including settlements, ships and all sorts of resources.
Each game turn contains an open trading phase in which all players can negotiate and execute deals for cubes, ships, colonies, and even the temporary use of technology! Players with sufficient resources can also research technologies, upgrade colonies and spend resources on special cards for their race during this phase. Once this phase is over, all players simultaneously rotate their savings, spending resources to obtain more resources. Confluence follows, starting with players sharing newly researched technologies with all other races, then bidding for new colonies and research teams. Researching a new technology awards many victory points for the prestige of helping galactic society advance. When a race builds a new technology, it is shared with all other races. Technologies can be improved when combined with other technologies.
The ultimate goal is to obtain victory points, which are acquired by researching technologies, using your economy to convert resources into goods, and converting the remaining goods into points at the end of the game. The game is played almost entirely simultaneously. Sidereal Confluence: Remastered Edition features the same gameplay as the first edition of the game from 2017, but offers an updated map layout, a teaching guide, and an improved rulebook to make it easier to set up and learn with more visual examples and clear key terms.
