Detective: It's All a Lie is a deduction and crime-solving game for 2-4 players set in the rich world of the Batman comics. Players take on the role of four key investigators - instinctive reporter Warren Spacey, tenacious reporter Vicki Vale, brutal detective Harvey Bullock, or cunning Catwoman - who are drawn into a series of mysterious events unfolding in Gotham City. Throughout the game, players make cooperative decisions to lead the investigation and attempt to solve a series of challenging cases. They visit famous Gotham City locations (such as the Batcave, Arkham Asylum, Blackgate Penitentiary, and the Gotham City Gazette) and encounter famous Batman characters (such as Batman, the Penguin, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, the Scarecrow, and many others) while trying to follow leads, identify suspects, and gather enough information to help save Gotham City. The game also adds an all-new hidden agenda mechanic, which assigns secret objectives and unique victory conditions to each player based on the DC character they play as.
In Detective: It's All a Lie, players use a variety of physical and digital gameplay elements - a card game with key clues and twists, various physical documents and a dedicated website with access to the resources of the Gotham City Gazette archive world - for a truly immersive experience. The game also features another new thematic feature - Scenes - which bring memorable moments in the game to life through original comic book illustrations that look as if they've been lifted straight from the pages and panels of the beloved comics. Beginning with an introductory Prologue designed to familiarise players with the rules of the game, Detective: It's All a Lie continues with three major cases to solve, each taking approximately 2-3 hours to play. Each case can be played separately as stand-alone episodes, but if players solve all four cases, they will unravel a main story with an epic climax. Each scenario ends with a final report with questions to test the quality of the team's investigation.
