The cover of FYFE shows a dream location in the South Seas, with a blue sea, a beach and palm trees. But what will you find when you dig in the sand, and can you arrange your findings into ideal combinations to score points? Each player has their own 5x5 grid, 7 lucky tiles and 15 scoreboards. The game includes 125 chips, each chip representing one of the five colours, one of the five symbols and one of the five numbers (1-5). The scoreboards indicate the conditions you must meet to get the points indicated on the board, e.g. numbers 1-5 in order, chips of the same colour, chips with different symbols, three chips of one colour and two chips of another colour, etc.
To start the game, take two chips from the bag and place them at the bottom of your board. Place one of these tokens in an empty space on your grid, then choose a scoreboard and place it on the row, column or (if applicable) diagonal in which that token was placed. On each subsequent turn, draw a token, place it on your game board, then choose one of your two tokens to place. If this newly placed token does not have a scoreboard pointed at it, choose one of your unplaced scoreboards and place it in the row, column or diagonal. As soon as a row is filled with five tokens, if you have completed the scoreboard for that row, turn it over to the side with the points on it; if you are the first and only player to complete that scoreboard in that turn, take the associated 3-point bonus tile. If you complete and score more than one row in the same turn, take 5 to 20 bonus points depending on whether you scored two, three or even four rows at once.
If someone drew a lucky chip at the beginning of the turn, they draw a replacement chip, then all players can choose to use and discard one of their lucky tiles. These tiles allow you to swap tokens from your reserve, place a token on the board as a joker, swap an already filled scoreboard for another, and so on. Each unused lucky tile is worth points at the end of the game. After 25 rounds, the players count their points for the scoreboards, first tiles, lucky tiles and bonuses to see who has the best score.
