Le Secret de mon Père

The walls were lined with iron shelves, each metal slat overloaded with glass jars containing formaldehyde and grotesque curiosities. Immaculate brass tools and refined metals of a quality I had never seen before were scattered across solid slabs of rock and wood, their edges sharpened by use. However, my eyes were soon drawn to a sturdy desk, its mahogany edges inlaid with thin strips of copper and its centre containing a well-worn leather-bound book. My father's diary - passed down to me and representing years of knowledge and countless experiences. And inside this time-worn tome, on the pearly parchment oxidised yellow at its frayed edges, were the deliberate pen marks of a mad genius describing the ambitious project he could never complete in a single lifetime - his masterpiece.

Without realising it, my hands trembled as I clutched the book to my chest. I felt both a sense of ownership and anxiety about the scientific sketches so eloquently scribbled on those frayed sheets. That's when my obsession began: I wanted to restore that laboratory to its former glory and devote my life to finishing my father's work! In My Father's Secret, players take on the role of competing mad scientists who have been given a page from their father's journal and a large estate in which to conduct their devious experiments. Players earn points by performing experiments, helping the city in its efforts, improving their macabre domain and hopefully completing their father's masterpiece.

But they have to balance study with active experimentation, because at the end of each generation all their experiments and resources are lost to time, until their child starts again with only the 'Knowledge and Journalistic Heritage' they have bequeathed to them - and as the game is played over three generations, it is inevitable that players will incite the inhabitants to form angry mobs or go insane over the ethically dubious works they have created. The player with the most points at the end of the three generations wins and becomes the most revered, feared and ingenious scientist the world has ever known!

Le Secret de mon Père was funded on the Crowdfunding Kickstarter (See the campaign) platform on the May 13, 2021, the campaign lasted 16 days. 10,087 people helped funded the game, whose the amount requested was $10,000.00. Thanks to these 10,087 people the game could be funded up to $920,101.00, ~9,201.01%.
