The Great Wall is a new asymmetrical worker/soldier placement game with gear building themes and a novelty in the form of a constantly attacking AI (the Mongol horde) that requires players to sometimes cooperate to defeat it. This is a major new board game from Awaken Realms. Players control ancient clans in China as they attempt to defend themselves against the invading Mongol hordes and build a Great Wall. Although each player wants to win (by gaining VPs = honour), sometimes they also have to cooperate to defend themselves against the hordes. Each clan will be asymmetrical due to their chosen leader (resource production/resource departure/worker and unit departure) and this asymmetry will increase as the game progresses (players will hire advisors with unique skills, often creating unique engines).
In The Great Wall, players take on the role of generals defending the wall against the Mongol horde. The game is played over a series of turns called Years, each divided into 4 parts called Seasons. In spring, new barbarian hordes invade the fields in front of the Great Wall and prepare to launch their assault. Summer is the time when the generals prepare for the assault and mobilise their forces. In autumn, players take turns playing command cards, resolving their effects and activating locations to gain various advantages. In winter, the last layer of defence is activated, and then the hordes attempt to storm the Walls. During the game, players will create their own unique engines based on their clan's strength and interact with other players during all phases of the game, trying to get the most honour points, which can be earned in different ways. At the end of the game, the player with the most honour wins.

The Great Wall was funded on the Crowdfunding Kickstarter (See the campaign) platform on the Dec 17, 2019, the campaign lasted 21 days. 15,794 people helped funded the game, whose the amount requested was £40,000.00. Thanks to these 15,794 people the game could be funded up to £1,151,159.00, ~2,877.90%.
