During the colonial period, the geographical area now occupied by Argentina was not particularly interesting to the conquistadores. It was an uninhabited land, with endless plains, no natural resources, and no gold or silver trace. On the grounds where the city of Buenos Aires was founded originally lived the Querandì, a small indigenous and nomadic tribe mainly devoted to hunting.
