Twilight Struggle is a two-player game that simulates forty-five years of intrigue, prestige, and occasional outbreaks of violence between the Soviet Union and the United States. The whole world is the stage on which these two titans fight to defend their ideals and way of life. The game begins in the ruins of Europe as the two new "superpowers" enter the conflict and ends in 1989.
The basic system of Twilight Struggle is inspired by classic Card Driven games such as We The People or Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage. It is an equally fast and fluid game. The Event Cards cover a wide range of historical events, from the Arab-Israeli conflicts of 1948 and 1967 to Vietnam, the US peace movement, and the Cuban missile crisis... which brought the world to the brink of nuclear annihilation.
The intricate mechanics simulate the prestigious Space Race as well as the nuclear tensions, with the possibility of Atomic War ending the game. A demanding, comprehensive and complex masterpiece of the genre!
