Central Europe: due to the many coal mines in Poland, its replenishment is more important than in the original set, making the operation of coal-fired power plants less expensive. Because of their political positions, Poland and Austria will never build nuclear power plants. Thus, a player cannot acquire (or bid on) a nuclear power plant until he has a city in at least one of the other 3 countries. The city of Vienna has a special status because all its energy comes from the incineration of rubbish, it often even buys it from foreign countries. Thus, a player with Wien in his network buys the rubbish with a discount of 1 Elektro. These modifications offer players new strategies and tactics for this game.

Benelux: As its member countries are strong supporters of green energy, the rules are being amended to allow, in certain situations, an additional green power plant to enter the current market. Unlike Central Europe, Benelux has more oil (it is actually Gas), but less coal. In addition, the short distances (and therefore the low connection costs) allow players to build their network faster, making games shorter. Finally, the withdrawal of the smallest power plant at each round triggers the transition to step 3 more quickly.
