During the Edo period, the Higaki Kaisen, or "merchant ships", were used to transport goods to Edo (present-day Tokyo), then the centre of political power in Japan. It was there that the Fudasashi (or "rice brokers") awaited shipments of various goods from Osaka, the commercial heart of Japan. You embody proud merchants, charged with bringing the pricey goods that would make Japan the powerful country it is today.
Their ships leave Osaka on a dangerous journey to Edo. If your ship is caught in the Kuroshio, you will lose all your goods. Wise merchants will insure their goods to reduce their losses... For every merchandise delivered to Edo, you'll be paid in hard currency. Who among you will get the most out of this hard work?
