Things are happening in the harbour area. Bold pirates meet in dark inns to forge plans. They target heavily loaded merchant ships: a rich loot awaits them there! Each player controls 5 pirates at his own color. 3 boat cards are placed on the table. Above are written the number of pirates needed to attack, the number of ducats to share once the attack is over and the type of treasures that the cargo hold contains. In turn, the active player has 2 possibilities.
He's building a crew. A crew is composed of "pirate" counters stacked together. A player who rides a crew takes one of his pirate counters, or a crew already in front of him, and places it on a "pirate" counter or an opposing crew. So he puts all this in front of him to show that he's the leader! Of course, there are rules such as "no more than 9 pirates in a crew", no right to cover a crew already belonging to you, etc....
He's attacking a ship. Here, it's simple, we take one of his crews (a pile of "pirate" counters in front of us, with one of his counters on top) and we indicate which of the 3 ships we attack. To attack a ship, you must have the indicated number of pirates. If so, we share the loot. The captain chooses one of the treasure tokens he puts in front of him (there are 4 types of treasures), the second one from the pile receives the second treasure. The captain then pays the pirates' salaries. The map shows how many ducats were in the trunk of the boat. Each "pirate" will receive his value (indicated on the counter) in ducas, if there is not enough in the trunk of the ship, the captain hits his personal treasure.
If a player with 3 pirates in a crew of which he is not captain, he can provoke a mutiny. He thus forces another player to attack a ship. If all 3 boats have been attacked, 3 more are returned, and so on until all 15 boats are done.
